Skin piercing is a general term that covers:
These activities require registering with the local authority in whose area the activity is to be carried out in order to meet the requirements of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.
Each activity requires a one-off registration, for which a fee will need to be paid for the person carrying out the business. Registration is with the local authority in whose area the premises are to be situated. A separate registration is also required for the premises.
An officer will carry out an inspection before registration is given. This ensures that techniques are carried out in a hygienic and safe manner.
Central Government is currently working on allowing local authorities to enact a consolidated byelaw incorporating skin piercing and body piercing.
The current cost of an application (April 2011 to March 2012) is £50 for the person carrying on the business and £109 for the premises.
Currently this Authority cannot accept payments made by credit cards.
