Our Carlton and Redhill cemeteries offer chapels that are available to hire through your funeral director. The chapels will seat approximately 45 people with 12 standing and also offer use of our organ, hymn books and our CD and cassette player.
All our chapels have hearing Loop systems installed.
Both our chapels offer Books of Remembrance and you are welcome to make a short inscription in memory of your loved one.
To make an inscription of up to three lines, please complete the form below, pay the necessary charges and we will write your entry in calligraphy. For details of our Book of Remembrance charges, please visit our Cemeteries Price Guide page.
Memorials and headstonesGrave owners have sole responsibility for the safety of memorials and we are not responsible for any repairs or damage. We do not permit ornaments to be placed on a grave and these will be removed immediately.
Wherever a headstone or monument is deemed unsafe, we will make every effort to contact the grave owner or their relatives. Where no contact is made within one month we will take appropriate action, which may involve the removal of the headstone.
We now offer Muslim burials at Carlton cemetery from Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.
The costs of these ceremonies are based on our standard charges, although an additional charge may be due for the price of a brick vault. We have also introduced restrictive depth charges as we currently dig all graves for three interments.
Please note that the last funeral start time is 2pm and we require a minimum of two hours notice for same day burials.
There are no crematoriums in the borough, although the following external sites offer information on other local crematorium:
We do not offer any green or woodland burial sites in the borough, although the Tithe Green Burial Ground offers full details of our nearest woodland burial site.
From time to time it may be necessary to move remains from a grave using a process known as exhumation.
To exhume human remains you must first obtain a Home Office License, which you can apply for by contacting your Funeral Director or by contacting the Ministry of Justice.
Once your application has been processed you will need to forward this license onto our Cemeteries team. Exhumation costs are substantial so we recommend you explore the full costs of this process, which may also include the cost of removing an original memorial and other funeral director’s costs.
