The Register of Electors is a record of all Gedling Borough residents who are entitled to vote at elections.
The register is published each year following an annual canvass of every property, which takes place each autumn, and remains in force for 12 months. If we do not receive the annual canvass form back for two successive years, your name will be removed from the register and you will need to resubmit your application.
Two versions of the Electoral Register are published each year, with the details of each version outlined below:
The full register lists the names and addresses of everyone in the borough who is entitled to vote. As a result, only certain people and organisations can access a copy of this version, which may only be used for specific purposes.
The law states who can have a copy of the full register and what they can use it for. It is a criminal offence for them to pass it on to anyone else or to use it for any other purpose.
The full version of the register is available for inspection at the Civic Centre in Arnold, although you will be required to make an appointment as this document may only be viewed under supervision.
To make an appointment to view the Full Register, please call our Electoral Registration Officer on (0115) 901 3917.
The edited register is separate from the voting register but is compiled from the details given on the canvas form. It can be sold to commercial companies and used for marketing purposes – what you may consider to be junk mail. If you do not want your details used in this way, you can against your name in the column headed “Edited Register”. Your details will be included on the full register for voting and credit reference purposes irrespective of whether you opt out of the edited register.
You can alter whether your details appear on the edited register or not during the internet and freephone registration process, but not if you are registering by text.
We are unable to carry your choice forward each year, so if you wish to opt out of the edited register you must do this every year.
