John Clarke is Leader of the Council, he was first elected to represent Netherfield & Colwick in 1989 and still represents that ward today.
John is former self-employed electrician and owned his own business. He is one of the County Councillors for Carlton East and Shadow Portfolio Holder for Finance at the County Council. He is also a member of the Nottinghamshire Police Authority, where he was previously Chair of the Authority for ten years.
John has been a school governor at many schools across Gedling and is actively involved with many community groups across the Borough.
Michael Payne is Deputy Leader of the Council, he was first elected to represent St. Mary’s ward in May 2011.
He is a Portfolio holder with specific responsibility for Communications and Public Protection across the Borough.
Michael is a graduate of Law and intends to complete his final stage of training to qualify as a Barrister next year. Michael was previously a Regional Organiser for the East Midlands in a national referendum campaign and has audited British Universities on quality and standards.
He is involved with many voluntary organisations, including Crimestoppers Nottinghamshire and is also a governor at Redhill Academy in Gedling Borough.
