A combination of UK and EU Parliament Members of Parliament (MPs) are elected in general elections.  The last election took place on 6th May 2010 and saw Vernon Coaker (lab) retain his seat for Gedling borough.

Gedling borough also covers a part of Sherwood in which Mark Spencer (con) stands.

72 UK MEPs were elected in the European Parliament elections on 4 June 2009. The UK is divided into twelve electoral regions made up of the nations and regions of the UK.  The following represent the East Midlands:
