Empty properties can become an eyesore, spoiling the look of the neighbourhood for local people and visitors to the area.
They also attract anti-social behaviour, arson and vandalism that could ultimately endanger those living in the surrounding areas.
Our Public Protection Section will take action when an empty home or untidy site is reported, with our actions determined by the problems it has caused the neighbourhood and the length of time it has stood vacant.
Where possible, we will try to trace the owner to bring the home back into use through sale, repair or lease.
In the case of an untidy site, we will work with the owner to deal with the problem. If there are problems of nuisance or vermin infestation, we may require the owner to introduce temporary measures before a longer-term solution is found.
