Property Matchmaker Scheme

Do you own an empty home and want to sell it? Or would you like to buy or invest in an empty property?

If so, the Property Matchmaker Scheme may be just what you need.

The Scheme aims to match empty home owners who would like to sell their property with people who want to buy or invest in an empty home. Whether your empty home needs total renovation or is ready to move into, you are welcome to join the scheme and it is completely free.

How the scheme works

The Council regularly receives enquiries from specialist investors and home renovators seeking to purchase empty homes and bring them back into use who request details from the Council of the addresses of long term empty homes – the Council is unable to provide this information without the owner’s consent due to data protection legislation. At the same time the Council investigates complaints about empty homes an often find long term empty home owners have been unable to sell their properties. The Matchmaker Scheme is a FREE service which aims to introduce investors and empty home owners with the view to bringing properties back into use.  Through the Council website two lists are available; one of potential buyers/investors and one of owners interested in selling their empty property or bringing in an investor to help fund renovation works.

Owners of empty homes can look at the list of potential buyers/investors and contact them to discuss the sale or investment in their properties. Alternatively, prospective buyers/investors of empty homes can view the details of empty properties listed on the Council’s website and contact the Council to arrange an introductory meeting with the other party.

Please note the council will only arrange an introductory meeting we are not providing an estate agency or conveyancing service for. All negotiations and sales processes take place between the seller and buyer. We recommend anyone who is seeking to sell their property obtains independent professional valuation, an energy performance certificate and legal advice (from a solicitor or estate agent)

How do I join the Property Matchmaker Scheme?

Empty home owner

Not all empty home owners have the time or financial resources to return their property to use, and sometimes the best solution is to sell the property or bring in an investor who can help return the property back to use. If your home is currently empty you can join the scheme.

To sell your empty home please complete the Empty Homes Owners Registration Form.

Benefits:

For confidentiality purposes no personal details are published on the website and any negotiations and/or sales take place directly between the seller and buyer.
