Equality and Diversity

Gedling Borough Council recognises that the people it serves have different needs and priorities.  The Council is committed to treating all of its customers and staff fairly without discrimination and prejudice and providing equal access to our services, citizen participation and employment and training opportunities.

In order to progress equalities across the whole council, a number of measures have been put in place:

An Equality Steering Group meets every month to monitor the implementation of the Council’s Equality Improvement Plan (2009-2012) and discuss the current issues related to equality.  The group links its work to the work of Gedling Cohesive Communities Forum , a group that is part of Gedling Partnership, the local strategic partnership for the Borough.  Please visit Gedling Cohesive Communities Forum page for more information.

“Towards an Even Fairer Gedling” is Gedling Borough Council’s Equality Improvement Plan (2009-2012) aiming at providing direction to elected members and staff within the Council. You can use the link below to download the document:

Equality Impact Assessment (EIAs) are a tool that Gedling Borough Council use to ensure that policies, services and procedures do not have an adverse impact on a particular group of people due to their gender, sexuality, religion or belief, race, age, gender identity or because they are disabled people or have caring responsibilities.  The actions arising from Equality Impact Assessemnts are fed into the Council's section plans.  To view all the completed EIAs please visit Equality Impact Assessment page.
