People living in Gedling Borough are being reminded that a summer service for the weekly collection of rubbish, lasting for 12 weeks, will begin on 25 June. This means that the black bin will be emptied each week. This will run alongside a fortnightly collection for recyclable waste.
Currently, households in the Borough receive an alternate weekly collection of refuse and materials for recycling, as well as fortnightly kerbside glass collections.
The Council agreed the change at their meeting in May. It was proposed because, due to the heat last summer, some residents were unhappy about an unpleasant smell from their bins, and as a result a number of residents requested a weekly collection of refuse during the summer months.
Councillor Richard Nicholson commented: ‘We have listened to residents’ concerns and this is why the weekly collections have been introduced during the summer months. He continued: ‘Our residents have done a wonderful job in helping us to reach our recycling target and I am sure we can rely on their support to continue to recycle as much of their waste as possible.’
Residents have now been given a leaflet explaining the change, and can always keep up to date on recycling and refuse collections in the Borough by logging on to www.gedling.gov.uk, emailing waste@gedling.gov.uk or telephoning 0115 901 3621.
