Mayor of Gedling

Councillor Richard Goodwin was elected to the office of Mayor of Gedling in May.

Councillor Suzanne Prew-Smith, who represents the Woodthorpe Ward has been elected as Deputy Mayor of the Borough.  

Cllr Goodwin follows in the footsteps of his wife Elaine, who was also Mayor of Gedling in 2002.  She will act as his escort throughout the year.  

Cllr Goodwin, who has been a councillor for five years and represents the Carlton ward, will represent the Council as Mayor over the next year.

Since being sworn into office, Cllr Goodwin has attended many events, including the Arnold Carnival in June.and he officially opened the Brickyard Community Centre in Honeywood Gardens estate. He was also was part of the judging panel at the Patchings Farm art exhibition.

Councillor Goodwin said: “I am looking forward to an active year and meeting a variety of people in my role as Mayor of Gedling. It’s already been a busy start and there are lots of exciting events across the Borough that I hope to support. I am also delighted to support Hayward House Hospice as my chosen charity.  It is a Macmillan specialist palliative care unit in the grounds of Nottingham City Hospital, which provides high quality care for cancer patients and their families.”

Important information about the Mayor

The Mayor's official title is The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Gedling.

The official way to address him is Mr Mayor.

On most engagements the Mayor is accompanied by the Mayoress/Escort and will arrive in a chaffeur driven car.

If you have requested a visit from the Mayor it is helpful to provide as much information about the event as possible.  This could include location maps, leaflets or posters, who the Mayor is likely to meet, whether or not a speech is needed and if refreshments will be provided.
