The success of any town centre needs to be based on a range of attractions, facilities and services including shops, financial, entertainment and leisure.
Town centres continue to play a very important role in society. Therefore it is vitally important that we all cater for a wide range of people using the Boroughs main town centres of Arnold, Mapperley, Carlton and Netherfield, including workers, residents, shoppers and visitors.
Attention also needs to be paid to the environment of the town centres in that they must be clean, pleasant and give a feeling of safety to all that attend.

The Town Centres Manager has been working closely with the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, pubs, and clubs in Gedling to reduce anti-social behaviour and make the Borough safer at night.
A number of Pub and Club Watch Scheme have been set up. Licensees meet regularly, supported by the Police and Gedling Borough Council, to discuss ways to make pubs and clubs safer.
If a customer commits a crime in licensed premises, Pub and Club Watch has a series of sanctions it can bring to bear including warning notices and banning orders which are enforced by all the premises in the scheme.
Any trouble can be quickly dealt with through a Radio Link which gives licensees the ability to contact each other quickly should an urgent situation occur.
The main advantages of the scheme are:
Statistics collected by the Police show that there has been a significant reduction of violent offences in pubs where Pub and Club Watch is in operation.
The Town Centres Manager is also a key player in the Shop Watch schemes that run throughout the Borough. Similar to the Pub and Club Watch schemes, Shop Watch bring together local retailers to share knowledge and information about protecting their businesses from crime - and create a safer shopping environment for customers.
