Fly-Tipping

What is a Waste Watch Zone?

There are several known areas in the borough where fly tipping regularly takes place. We are erecting signs and monitoring these areas with CCTV cameras in order to catch and prosecute offenders. Not only are the removal and disposal costs very high but this waste can cause environmental hazards.

Gedling Borough Council is determined to reverse the trend in this anti-social practice by establishing ‘Waste Watch Zone’.
The Authority have recently formed a Fly Tipping Crew who are responsible for removing any dumping from public areas quickly. We need your help in catching offenders by reporting any incidents to us.  Please be our eyes and ears. The more information we get will assist us in securing a successful prosecution. Contact us on waste@gedling.gov.uk or telephone 0115 9013839.

Information Required

  1. Time of the incident or the time when you first noticed the dumping.
  2. Type of item or material that has been dumped and approximate quantity.
  3. Any vehicle details such as registration number, type and colour, any names or telephone numbers on the side of the vehicle.·
  4. Descriptions of or name(s) of person(s) you may have found close to the scene.

Please don’t approach or challenge the offender(s) – take as much detail as you can from a safe distance.

Please don’t go through any bags or items searching for evidence – it has been known for some bags to contain hypodermic needles, glass and other sharp objects.

Other Areas Where Fly Tipping May Occur

Even if your area is not currently a designated Waste Watch Zone this does not mean that the Council does not want to know. If you witness any fly tipping anywhere within Gedling Borough we still want to know about it and the matter will be dealt with in the same way as a designated Waste Watch Zone area.

The officer taking your call will ask you if you are prepared to be a witness to the incident should the matter be referred to the courts.
