Garden Waste Collection Scheme
Why has the garden waste scheme been introduced?
The Government has introduced targets to reduce biodegradable waste being sent to landfill. These targets are achievable if we all “do our bit.” One alternative is to recycle the waste into soil conditioner and compost. The Garden Waste Collection Scheme has been introduced to make it easier for residents to dispose of their green waste. Recycling this material is also friendly to the planet and supports a cleaner environment.
Find out more about what other recycling goes on in Gedling.
When will the collection be?
There will be fortnightly collections during the months April through to December. Over the winter months (January to March) the collections will be monthly. Please note some areas may have one collection in December and two in March due to Christmas arrangements.
How will the waste be collected?
The waste will be collected in a brown bin supplied by the Council. Residents will be allowed as many bins as they require at the additional charge of £12 per bin per year.
What is the cost of the scheme?
Membership is from April (or your joining date) until March 2009. The charge from April 2008 to March 2009 will remain at £30. Each participating resident will be supplied with 1 brown bin. If you would like more bins, the cost will be an additional £12 per year per bin.
I want to recycle my garden waste but don't produce a regular amount.
Why not share a bin and the cost with a neighbour. The bin must be registered to an individual address but the waste you put in may come from several houses.
