Waste and Recycling

We are trying to motivate residents to reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites and have a number of schemes in place to help you get rid of waste properly and recycle as much as possible. In 2008/09 a recycling rate of 36.79% was achieved, thank you for all your help. If you would like information on any of our waste and recycling schemes please contact us on 0115 901 3621 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk.

Latest News

Gedling Borough Council’s refuse collection team have been working hard to try to collect the backlog of black bins that were not collected due to the bad weather. Unfortunately due to the weights collected there are still a few outstanding bins.

Extra waste, which is placed in a bag next to your bin, will be collected with the bins on your normal collection this week.  Gedling Borough Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank our residents for their patience.

When is my next collection?

To find out when the next collection for your green bin, black bin or glass box is or to download your Twin Bin calendar.

How to get a bin

If you are new to the property and you don’t have any bins, or if you need a replacement bin we can deliver this to you. If your bin is damaged we will come to assess the damage and either fix it or issue you with a new bin. The size of your bin will depend on how many people live in the household. We will provide you with a green/black bin or a glass box free of charge.

You can request a brown bin for garden waste but this is a chargeable service. Visit our Garden Waste Schemes page for more information.

Assisted collections

If you need help putting out your wheeled bin due to infirmity, we can arrange for a crew to do this for you, either long or short term. Please contact us on 0115 901 3621 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk.
