Waste and Recycling

We are trying to motivate residents to reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites and have a number of schemes in place to help you get rid of waste properly and recycle as much as possible. In 2009/10 a recycling rate of 36.5% was achieved, thank you for all your help. If you would like information on any of our waste and recycling schemes please contact us on 0115 901 3621 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk.

Weekly summer refuse collections in Gedling

Gedling Borough Council will again be collecting residual waste from the black bin weekly this summer for a 12-week period between Monday 28 June and Friday 17 September. Recycling waste in green bins and glass boxes will continue to be collected on a fortnightly basis. If a black bin is missed during the summer weekly service the crew will not return to empty it and the black bin will be collected the next week on the normal collection day.

Please remember to put your bins out by 7am as different crews may be collecting at different times. Thank you.

How to get a bin

If you are new to the property and you don’t have any bins, or if you need a replacement bin we can deliver this to you. If your bin is damaged we will come to assess the damage and either fix it or issue you with a new bin. The size of your bin will depend on how many people live in the household. We will provide you with a green/black bin or a glass box free of charge.

You can request a brown bin for garden waste but this is a chargeable service. Visit our Garden Waste Schemes page for more information.

If you need help putting out your wheeled bin due to infirmity, we can arrange for a crew to do this for you, either long or short term. Please contact us on 0115 901 3621 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk.
