Clinical Waste

Clinical waste disposal from private households includes the safe collection and disposal of  incontinence pads and dialysis waste amongst other items.

Gedling Borough Council can arrange a collection service of clinical waste from private households free of charge.

Clinical waste should not be put in with normal rubbish, it should be stored in special yellow sacks.

Any sharp instruments such as scalpels or needles must be put into special yellow plastic containers known as "sharps boxes" and should be returned to the Clinic where you receive your needles from or to your District Health Visitor.

We will provide you with yellow sacks and will arrange a first collection within five working days. Please contact us on either 0115 9013621 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk to arrange collections or if you have any queries or concerns. The waste is collected on behalf of Gedling Borough Council by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

All records of collections are confidential.

The waste is taken to a special incinerator which destroys the waste.
