Bulky Household Waste Collections

Gedling Borough Council operates a separate collection of unwanted household items that are too large to fit into your wheeled bin.

Our Bulky Household Collection charges are:-

There is now a collection fee for fridges and freezers, as above.

Due to new legislation regarding electrical equipment and hazardous waste; fridges and freezers, television and monitors all need to collected separately so the charge is for each collection as they need to be collected by different vehicles.  For example, if you had a fridge it would be £8, a television would be £8 and a sofa would be £8.

If you are buying new appliances the retailer can assist with taking your old one away. Please be aware that they may charge for this service.

Collection is normally within 5 working days after payment is processed.

Contact us on 0115 901 3621 to arrange collection and make a payment where appropriate.  Alternatively email waste@gedling.gov.uk .

Householder's Duty of Care

Householders have a legal responsibility to transfer their waste to an authorised waste carrier. This means that anyone taking your waste for disposal must hold a valid waste carrier’s licence.

If your waste carrier is not a licensed waste carrier and then proceeds to dump your waste in an illegal place (known as fly tipping), the householder will be held responsible and could  be liable to prosecution and  fined up to £5,000.

So remember, when employing the services of a waste carrier, always ask to see their waste carrier’s licence and make a note of the number.

For more advice please call 08708 506 506 or to find a registered carrier by visiting www.environment-agency.gov.uk/publicregister

Asbestos Collection

If you are of retirement age or on means tested benefits Gedling Borough Council will collect asbestos free of charge from domestic properties. Please call on 0115 901 3840. or email waste@gedling.gov.uk

If the asbestos consists of a structure i.e. a garage or a shed, this needs to be dismantled first.

An officer from Gedling Borough Council will visit to get proof of age or benefit and obtain a signed form. Arrangements will then be made for removal.

If you are not of retirement age or on means tested benefits, Gedling Borough Council can give a quotation for removal. Please call on 0115 901 3840 or email waste@gedling.gov.uk. Residents can hire a skip from a builders merchant but they must say when ordering that the skip will be used for asbestos. If the resident can provide their own transport then the dumping of asbestos is free of charge, but they must first make arrangements with the Waste Hotline at Nottinghamshire County Council on telephone number 0115 977 2019.

Asbestos and contaminated materials from the work place are classed as special waste and can only be disposed of at licensed sites.
