The public car parks are intended for use by shoppers and visitors to the various parts of the Borough.  Some long-stay car parking is available for use by businesses or employees of business.

The use of the car parks is governed by conditions of parking which are enforced by means of Car Parking Orders (see below)

Car Parking Orders

To effectively manage car parking, there is a management system which encompasses the provisions within the formal Car Parking Orders:–

The Gedling Borough Council (Off Street Parking Places Long Stay) Order 2001 and

The Gedling Borough Council (Off Street Parking Places Short Stay) Order 2001 which designate the spaces as either long stay or short stay.

Long-Stay/Short-Stay

Long-stay car parking is for periods of up to 24 hours. There is no charge made for a stay in excess of this period – however, the Council may take other action, including prosecution.

Short-stay parking is for periods of up to 3 hours. There is also no return within 3 hours of the previous instance of parking. Overstay of either of the provisions may lead to a fine. The short-stay provisions do not apply on Sundays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Fines

For contravention of the short-stay car parking provision the current level of charge is £50.  This is discounted to £30 if the charge is paid within 7 working days.
