Renovation Grants

The discretionary Renovation Grant assists homeowners and private sector tenants in bringing their property up to the Decent Homes standard. (External site)

Do I qualify?

This kind of support is available for works on houses, flats and mobile homes, providing the tenant or homeowner is:

• Aged 60 or over and in receipt of a means-tested benefit
• Disabled and in receipt of a means-tested benefit
• Families in receipt of a means-tested benefit with children aged 16 and under

What is the Decent Homes standard?

Decent Homes are defined as those free from serious hazards, wind- and weather-tight, and with warm and modern facilities. To meet this requirement, a home must:

• Be free from ‘category one’ hazards as determined by the Housing Health and Safety Rating system (External site)
• In a reasonable state of repair
• Have reasonably modern facilities and services
• Provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort.
