Pest Control

We can treat rats, mice, fleas, cockroaches and bedbugs if they are inside the property. We can advise on a number of other pest species, including rats (outside), foxes, moles, wasps, ants, squirrels and biscuit beetles. Please contact us on 0115 901 3972 or email environmentalhealth@gedling.gov.uk.

We do not charge for any of these services unless you are treating fleas, which costs £51.48. Once you have lodged a request we aim to carry out treatments within two working days. We will do our best to arrange appointments during working hours.

Mice

Brown MouseThe adult mouse is between 7 -9 cm in length and its tail is about 80% of its body length. The first indications of a problem are likely to be damage to foodstuffs and property and droppings (about 1mm long).

You can treat mice yourself by buying edible poison baits or traps. You can also contact us on 0115 901 3972 and use our free service. We will only treat mice inside a domestic property.

Rats

Rat

We do not treat rats in gardens, only inside domestic properties. If the problem is in a neighbouring garden or land then please contact us to make a report on 0115 901 3972 or environmentalhealth@gedling.gov.uk.

Rats in gardens are more common than you think and if you see one, on a single occasion there is generally no need to contact us. If you continue to see rats or there is clear evidence of rats in the garden such as holes or droppings, you should contact a private pest controller who is affiliated to either the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) or the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA).

For more information on rats and advice on how to reduce the risk of them in your garden visit the British Pest Control Association website.

Squirrels

Grey Squirrel

We do not have a service that treats squirrels. It is a specialist job to treat for squirrels, requiring specific knowledge in order to carry out the work safely and comply with legislative requirements. To find a local pest controller visit the British Pest Control Association website or look online or in the yellow pages.
