Neighbourhood Wardens

The Neighbourhood Warden service was first introduced in response to concerns by people of Gedling about anti-social behaviour and environmental crime, such as dog fouling, littering and fly tipping.

The Neighbourhood Wardens work closely with both the Police and Police Community Support Officers to patrol the Borough.  The Wardens act as the eyes and ears of the Council in the community by:

• Reporting crimes
• Enforcing Council byelaws for offences and issuing on-the-sport fines
• Gathering evidence in anti-social behaviour cases to help the Council take action
• Advising members of the public about Council Services

The Neighbourhood Wardens are easily recognisable when out and about in the Borough, wearing a blue and black uniform displaying the Neighbourhood Warden logo and driving a clearly marked van.

The Wardens key areas of work include:

• Fly tipping
• Litter
• Graffiti
• Vandalism
• Anti-Social Behaviour
• Patrolling
• Car crime initiative
• Dog fouling, dangerous dogs and stray dog collection

Achievements and Success

The Wardens continually strive to make Gedling a cleaner and more pleasant place to live and work and have:

• Issued fixed penalty notices for dropping litter
• Investigated dog fouling cases and fly tipping cases
• Taken prosecutions to court and made a further referrals for prosecution
• Collected statements in anti-social behaviour cases
• Held activity programmes with young people
• Regularly patrolled areas of high crime
• Worked closely with the police and DVLA to combat car crime
• Have dealt with cases of vandalism and graffiti
• Collected stray dogs

The Neighbourhood Wardens are split into 2 teams covering different areas of the Borough.

The South Team look after the areas surrounding Carlton Netherfield, Mapperley, Burton Joyce and Gedling.
