Gedling Borough Council is the regulator of certain industrial processes under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999.
The Council issues permits to businesses who wish to operate potentially polluting equipment or installations., These are categorised into Part 'A2' or 'B' installations, as prescribed by the Act. Any new business will usually be asked to apply for one of these permits during the planning application stage and must have a permit before they can operate.
The aim of the authorisation process is to keep environmental impacts within the Best Available Techniques (BAT) for the particular industry.
Once granted, the permit details the measures needed to ensure that BAT is met
Some processes with the highest potential to pollute are dealt with by the Environment Agency, who also issue them with a permit to operate these are known as A1 Processes. There are none of these processes in Gedling.
All the processes permitted within Gedling are kept in a public register held at The Civic Centre in Arnold.
