If you are on a low income, you may be entitled to claim Housing and Council Tax Benefit to help with your rent costs and Council Tax liability.
As this kind of benefit is 'means tested', the amount of benefit you receive will depend on your income, savings, household circumstances and 'needs allowance'. To submit a claim you can complete an interactive application form on-line. You will need to provide proof of your identity, National Insurance number, income, capital. If you are claiming Housing Benefit you will also need to provide proof of rent, unless you are a Council Tenant." You can also print a paper "application form" which you need to return to the Council's offices at the Civic Centre.
