How do I make a claim?

Please note that all benefit applications will be vetted using the Verification Framework and will require Proof of Identity.

Can I backdate my application?

If you claim Housing and Council Tax benefit and have 'good reason' to do so, you may be entitled to claim benefit from before your claim was made. For more information, please visit our Backdated Claims page.

What happens next?

If you disagree with a decision we make about your Housing or Council Tax Benefit claim, you may exercise your right to appeal. Please visit our Appeals page for more information.

Anyone receiving benefit must notify us of any change in circumstances that could affect the amount of benefit they receive. For more details, please visit our Change of Circumstances page.

How are benefit payments made?

Council Tax and Housing Benefit payments are normally awarded by Bacs bank transfer from the Monday following receipt of your completed application form. For more information, please visit our Payments page.
