If you have not received your travel pass by 1st April 2008 you can still use your existing travel pass in Nottinghamshire but you will not be able to use it on any local buses outside the county.
The English national free travel scheme will come into effect on 1st April 2008 as announced by Ruth Kelly, the Minister for Transport. More information on the scheme will be published before this date as the details are finalised. There is no need for Gedling residents to do anything at this stage. Existing pass holders will automatically be issued with new passes in March 2008.
The current free travel scheme will continue to operate until 31st March 2008.
The current Nottinghamshire Concessionary Travel Scheme is for Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons resident in Nottinghamshire. It is jointly financed by the County Council and all of the District Councils. Travel permits provided under this scheme can be used on buses, trams and trains throughout the County with very few restrictions.
To qualify you must be a resident of Nottinghamshire and be in one of the following categories:-
The permits initially are issued free of charge but you may need to provide a recent passport size photograph of yourself. Contact the Borough Council for advice before having a picture taken. If you lose your permit, a fee will be charged for a replacement.

Almost every bus service in Nottinghamshire (including the City Council area) is covered by the scheme, as well as journeys going outside the County. You can travel outside the County on these services provided that you start or finish your journey in Nottinghamshire where a through fare is available.
Free travel is available on buses after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on public holidays. Half fare travel is available before 9.30am Monday to Friday.
On the Nottingham tram (NET) the above rules apply, however between 4.00pm and 6.00pm half fare travel will apply.
On certain train services and on community transport (such as Nottinghamshire Community Bus Services including Soar Valley, Countryman and local Voluntary Car Schemes) half fare travel is available.
You will have to pay full fare on long distance express services, tours and special services.
To find the times of all bus and tram services operating anywhere in Nottinghamshire simply call 0870 6082606. For the price of a local call expert Traveline staff will provide you with the details of any local bus or tram journey you want to make.
The half fare concession applies to all standard single and return rail tickets and some saver and day returns. If in doubt ask at the ticket office, or ask the conductor on board the train for details.
You can use your permit to travel on any train service operating between any two stations on the following lines, provided your journey starts or finishes in Nottinghamshire (including Langley Mill and Alfreton):-
Please Note: Your permit is not valid on the East Coast Main Line operating between Newark and Retford.
