Am I entitled to a discount?

You may be entitled to a reduction in your Council Tax charges if you or someone living with you is substantially or permanently disabled and requires one of the following:

• A room mainly used by the disabled person to meet their specific needs
• A second bathroom or kitchen to meet the specific needs of the disabled person
• Sufficient floor space to enable the disabled person can use a wheelchair in the home on a day-to-day basis

How is this reduction calculated?

Reductions for people with disabilities ensure no more Council Tax is payable on the additional space needed because of a disability.

Here the charge may be reduced to that of a property in the band immediately below the valuation shown on the Valuation List or, where the property is already in band A, the reduction will be applied by the same proportion for properties in band B.

How do I apply for this reduction?

The liable person can submit an application providing the disabled person (who may be of any age) lives in the dwelling as their main residence.
