Exemptions
The Council is now offering a new service on its website to all residents of the Borough. It is called "OPENGedling" and you can register as a user simply by clicking here open.gedling.gov.uk. You can also email enquiries to OPENGedling@gedling.gov.uk .
Some dwellings are exempt, from Council Tax as follows:
- Unoccupied and unfurnished dwellings, which require or are undergoing structural alterations or major repairs (exempt for up to twelve months);
- Unoccupied dwellings that are owned by a charity (exempt for up to six months);
- Unoccupied and unfurnished dwellings (exempt for up to six months)
- Unoccupied dwellings left empty by a person who is detained elsewhere, such as prison or medical facility
- Unoccupied dwellings left by a person who is now peramently resident in a hospital, residential care home or nursing home
- Unoccupied dwellings left empty by a person who has passed away and probate or letters of administration are due to be granted.
- Unoccupied dwellings where occupation is prohibited by law
- Unoccupied dwellings which are awaiting occupation by a minister of religion from which he/she can perform their duties
- Unoccupied dwellings left empty a person who has moved to provide personal care to another person
- Unoccupied dwellings left empty by a person who has moved to receive personal care from another person.
- Unoccupied dwellings left empty by students
- Unoccupied dwellings that have been repossessed
- Occupied student halls of residences
- Dwellings occupied solely by full time students
- Occupied armed forces barracks, messes and married quarters
- Dwellings occupied by a visiting armed force
- Unoccupied dwellings that are the responsibility of a bankrupt's trustee
- Vacant caravan pitches and moorings
- Dwellings occupied solely by persons under the age of 18 years
- Unoccupied annexes that cannot be let separately
- Dwellings occupied solely by persons who are severely mentally impaired
- Dwellings occupied by persons with diplomatic privileges and immunities
- Annexes which are occupied solely by dependent relatives of the occupants of the main dwelling
