1. Population

Resident Population

The 2001 Census shows that the resident population of Daybrook is 4,997 (4.47% of the Borough’s population). This makes Daybrook the twelfth most populated of the 22 wards in Gedling. The mid-year estimate for June 2004 gives a resident population of 4,918 (4.4% of the Borough's population) giving Daybrook the thirteenth most populated ward.  The population gender split is estimated as 47.5% male and 52.5% female.

Age

The average age of a person living in Daybrook is 38.7 years, compared to an average age in Gedling Borough of 40.1. This gives the Ward the seventeenth oldest average population of the 22 Wards in the Borough. One fifth (20%) of Daybrook’s population is under sixteen. 57.9% of the population are between the ages of 16 and 60, and 22.1% are 60 and over. (Source: ONS, Census 2001).

Ethnicity

95.99% of Daybrook’s population is either White British or White Irish. This means 4.01% of the population are from a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) group, and accounts for 3.56% (149 residents) of the Borough’s total BME population. This gives Daybrook the thirteenth largest BME population in Gedling Borough. (Source: ONS, Census 2001).

Religion

As measured in the 2001 Census, 66.6% of Daybrook’s population is Christian. People from other faith groups make up 1.5% of the ward population. This is lower than the 1.8% of people from other faith groups that make up the population of Gedling Borough as a whole.  As much as 22.2% of the population stated that they have no religion. Marital Status

As measured in the 2001 Census, the vast majority (45.9%) of Daybrook’s population is married or re-married. 31.5% of the population is single. The married or re-married percentage of the population on Daybrook is therefore lower than across the whole of the Borough, while the single percentage of the population is higher. Health

In 2005 Daybrook had a birth rate of 47.530 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44. This gave Daybrook the twelfth highest birth rate in Gedling Borough. (Gedling PCT, 2007)

Daybrook had an average death rate of 651.16 per 100,000 population between 2001 and 2003. This gave Daybrook the tenth highest death rate in Gedling Borough.(Source: Gedling PCT).

For 2005 Daybrook had an average female life expectancy of 82 years which is the eleventh highest level of female life expectancy in the Borough.  The average male life expectancy is 75.2 years which is the eighteenth highest male life expectancy out of the 22 wards.  (Source:  Gedling PCT, 2007).

In February 2007 there were 330 residents in Daybrook receiving Disabled Living Allowance. This gave Daybrook the seventh highest number of claimants in the Borough. (Source: Department of Work and Pensions).

The 2001 Census shows that within Daybrook 1,074 individuals declared they had a limiting long-term illness, giving a percentage of 21.49% which is the nineteenth  highest in the Borough. (Source ONS, Census 2001).

Household

According to the 2001 Census there are 2222 households in Daybrook. Of these 1415 are one family households, 700 are one person households and 107 are other households. One family households are broken down in to 670 Married Couple households, 242 Cohabiting Couple Family households, 294 Lone Parent households and 209 Pensioners (Source: ONS, Census 2001).

2. Employment

Unemployment

As of December 2006 there were 83 residents in Daybrook registered as unemployed. This represents 2.8% of the total Ward population. The unemployment rate is higher in Daybrook than it is across the Borough as a whole where 1.8% of the total population is unemployed. Unemployment remained between 90 and 99 all year apart from a peak in August to 102, but finished the year in December at the lowest amount for the whole six months at 83.  (Source: Nottinghamshire County Council).

4 Crime Figures

The figures show incidents of crime remained around 10 per 1,000 of population from October 2005 through to June 2006.  However, an increase was seen in July to 50 and in September to 70 per 1,000, peaks during these months are also seen in all Wards within the Borough, but levels returned to the lower rates in August and October 2006.
