1. Population

Resident Population

The 2001 Census shows that the resident population of Killisick is 2,709 (2.42% of the Borough’s population). This makes Killisick the eighteenth most populated of the 22 wards in Gedling. The population is split by gender as follows: - 46% male and 54% female.

The mid-year estimate for June 2004 gives a resident population of 2,744 (2.5% of the Borough's population) and remains the eighteenth most populated ward.  The population gender split is estimated as 46.3% male and 53.7% female. Age

The average age of a person living in Killisick is 38.5 years, compared to an average age in Gedling Borough of 40.1. This gives the Ward the eighteenth oldest average population of the 22 Wards in the Borough. Over one quarter (26.2%) of Killisick’s population is under sixteen. 50.3% of the population are between the ages of 16 and 60, 23.6% are 60 and over. (Source: ONS, Census 2001).

Ethnicity

96.86% of Killisick’s population is either White British or White Irish. This means that 3.14% of the population are from a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) group, and accounts for 1.48% (62 residents) of the Borough’s total BME population. This gives Killisick the eighteenth largest BME population in Gedling Borough.

The BME population is split to reveal that 0.89% is of mixed heritage; 0.48% is Asian or Asian British; 0.92% is Black or Black British; and 0.11% is either Chinese or from another Ethnic group. (Source: ONS, Census 2001).

Religion

As measured in the 2001 Census, 66.9% of Killisick’s population is Christian. People from other faith groups make up 0.8% of the ward population. This is lower than the 1.8% of people from other faith groups that make up the population of Gedling Borough as a whole.  As much as 22.6% of the population stated that they have no religion.

Marital Status

As measured in the 2001 Census, the vast majority (43.4%) of Killisick’s population is married or re-married. 28.8% of the population is single. The married or re-married percentage of the population on Kilisick is therefore lower than across the whole of the Borough, while the single percentage of the population is higher. Health

In 2005 Killisick had a birth rate of 57.762 per 1000 women aged 15 to 44. This gave Killisck the third highest birth rate in Gedling. (Source: Gedling PCT, 2007).

Killisick had an average death rate of 786.83 per 100,000 population between 2001 and 2003. This gave Killisick the third highest death rate in Gedling (Source: Gedling PCT).

For 2005 Killisick had an average female life expectancy of 80.3 years which is the fifteenth highest level of female life expectancy in the Borough.  The average male life expectancy is 72.1 years which is the second lowest male life expectancy out of the 22 wards. (Source: Gedling PCT, 2007).

In February 2007 there were 175 residents in Killisick receiving Disabled Living Allowance. This gave Killisick the sixteenth highest number of claimants in the Borough. (Source: Department for Work and Pensions).

In February 2007 there were 20 residents in Killisick receiving Severe Disablement Allowance. This gave Killisick the fourteenth highest number of claimants in the Borough. (Department for Work and Pensions).

The 2001 Census shows that within Killisick 639 individuals declared they had a limiting long-term illness, giving a percentage of 23.59% which is the second highest percentage in the Borough. (Source ONS, Census 2001).

Household

According to the 2001 Census there are 1084 households in Killisick. Of these 685 are one family households, 337 are one person households and 62 are other households. 2. Employment

Unemployment

As of December 2006 there were 49 residents in Killisick registered as unemployed. This represents 3.9% of the total Ward population. Unemployment is higher in Killisick than it is across the Borough as a whole where 1.8% of the total population is unemployed. 4. Crime Figures

The figures show incidents of crime remained at 10 or below per 1,000 population from October 2005 through to June 2006.  However, an increase was seen in July to 30 and in September to 50 per 1,000 population, peaks during these months are also seen in all Wards within the Borough, but levels returned to the lower rates in August and October 2006.
