Garages

Gedling Borough Council also rents out garages.  The garages are spread throughout the borough.  If  you are interested in renting a garage please contact housing services on 0115 901 3677, for further details or e-mail housingservices@gedling.gov.uk

We do have a waiting list for garages. You should also ensure that you do not owe the council any money or we may not be able to register your request to rent from us.

The garage rental charges are as follows

Council tenants £5.84per week as at 01.04.2006

Non Council Tenants £6.97per week as at 01.04.2006

The rent is charged weekly, and can be paid fortnightly.

All tenants are required to pay a deposit of £40.00 which is refunded when the tenancy is terminated, the keys have been received and the garage inspected to the satisfaction of the Technical Officers.

If you would like to apply to go on the waiting list for a garage please download, complete and return the garage application form.

Terms and conditions

Garages are let for the purpose of garaging a motor vehicle only. A garage must not be used for other purposes. Applicants will be asked to produce their Vehicle Registration Document V5 when signing the tenancy agreement.

Materials that can catch fire easily must not be stored in garages.

You cannot keep petrol or gas bottles in a garage.

Priority in allocating vacancies will go to Council tenants living on the estate. Where no tenant is on the list the vacancy will be offered to the next person on the list

Garages Arrears

It is a condition of your tenancy agreement that your garage rent and any other charges must be paid as they become due.

Rent Control Officers review the garage rent accounts every week and will take action against anyone who persistently fails to pay their rent or contact us. If your garage rent account falls into arrears a Rent Control Officer will contact you.

If Rent Arrears Persist or Increase

If you remain in arrears we will consider serving you with a Notice To Quit, which is the first step we can take towards recovering possession of your garage, however you may still make an arrangement, which, if kept, will stop further action.

Help and advice is on offer throughout this process, we are keen to help you to make arrangements to clear your arrears, however, if arrears continue to increase, we will take action to recover the garage from you which will involve us changing the locks and clearing the garage. The costs incurred in this process will be recharged to you.

We understand that everyone can experience financial difficulties on occasions. If you are struggling to pay your rent it is very important to contact the Rent Team immediately on 0115 9013771 or 9013682 or call into the Civic Centre or contact us by e-mail at housingservices@gedling.gov.uk

The sooner we are aware that you have problems the easier it is for us to help.
