STREET TRADING

There is a Street Trading By-Law covering Arnold Town Centre, specifically affecting the whole of Front Street and parts of all side roads off it (including part of Worrall Avenue and at the side of the Market Place).  The By-Law prohibits the sale of any goods, etc. from any part of the public highway on the defined streets and renders offenders liable to prosecution.

On other streets in the Borough, street trading can be considered an obstruction on the highway and dealt with accordingly.  Certain street trading on these other streets could be licensed by the County Council, who have set down qualifying criteria for what does and does not constitute an appropriate use of the highway.

The Borough Council does not operate a traders’ licensing system under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Powers) Act 1982.

Further details of the Street Trading By-Law can be obtained from the Legal & Democratic Services Department.
