Local Code of Conduct Complaints process

Changes to the complaints procedure

From May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that an elected member may have breached the Code of Conduct has moved to the standards committees of local authorities.

What this means to you

If you want to complain about the conduct of a member of Gedling Borough Council or a member of one of our parish councils, you must now submit your complaint in writing to:

The Standards Committee

Gedling Borough Council

Civic Centre

Arnot Hill Park

Arnold

Nottingham. NG5 6LU

The Standards Committee is made up of borough Councillors, parish Councillors and independent people appointed by the Council to promote and maintain high ethical standards.

The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the members’ Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Standards Committee it must be about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.

Before May 2008, the Standards Board for England was responsible for carrying out this function. Please visit the Standards Board’s website at www.standardsboard.gov.uk for further information.
