In common with other councils, we have a provision for overview and scrutiny committees to help make our decision making process as accountable as possible.
The Scrutiny process provides opportunities for Councillors who are not members of our Cabinet to:
Scrutiny also provides the opportunity for Councillors to voice your concerns and participate in the development of new policy.
To suggest a topic for Scrutiny Reviews and for all other enquiries, please contact the Scrutiny Officer at the Civic Centre on (0115) 901 3627 or email scrutiny@gedling.gov.uk
We have three scrutiny committees made up of Councillors from all political parties. Each committee has specific areas they take responsibility for:
This Committee oversees the Scrutiny programme in Gedling, supported by the work of the two committees shown below. It is also responsible for evaluating and improving the positive effect that reviews have upon your services, ensuring that the Scrutiny process is providing the greatest possible benefit to Gedling residents.
For more information please contact Councillor John Collin, Chairman of the Overarching Scrutiny Committee, on 0115 9525230
Our Policy Review Scrutiny Committee evaluates any service we currently provide or could potentially provide and explores these issues in depth. The review will focus on a single issue (i.e. disability access) and then form cross-party subgroups to scrutinise further.
A review will often last for several months before making recommendations on service improvements, which will be reported back to the full committee and possibly the Cabinet.
For more information please contact the Chairman of the Policy Review Scrutiny Committee, Councillor Paul Feeney on (0115) 910 4032 or email paul.feeney@ntlworld.com
A large part of the work of this committee centres on the performance and management of our services. Each time this committee meets, councillors scrutinise a report showing progress on council performance against every target it has to meet.
The committee may decide to form working groups to meet outside of the main committee and report back with recommendations.
For more information please contact the Chairman of the Performance Review Scrutiny Committee, Councillor Anne Wright on (0115) 955 9284 or email a.wright39@ntlworld.com
All Policy and Performance Review Scrutiny Committee reports can be accessed through our Agendas and Minutes pages.
