‘Changing Lifestyles’ is a Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for the Gedling community which emerged following the identified need for a coordinated approach towards sports and physical activity in the Borough. This coordinated approach works to maximise the use of facilities, resources and expertise and avoid duplication of effort.
The strategy is one of a multi agency approach that pulls together various strands around health, schools, sports development, leisure facilities, voluntary sector and other overlapping areas to plan and deliver a single Borough wide Sports and Physical Activity Strategy for the people of Gedling.
The development of the strategy commenced in June 2004 with an invitation from Gedling Borough Council to everyone involved in the sporting fraternity to attend an open sports forum evening to discuss the way forward for sports and physical activity throughout the borough.
In 2005 a partnership was developed. The purpose of the partnership was to develop a 10-year Sports and Physical Activity Strategy. Following months of consultation the partnership adopted an action plan that would set out to ‘change people’s lifestyles’ by increasing levels of participation in sport and active recreation throughout the decade.
