The Arnold Carnival

The 2009 Arnold Carnival saw more than 30,000 people descend on Arnot Hill Park for performances by the Bogus Brothers and X Factor finalist, Andy Abraham.

The two-day event also staged performances by a number of other professional and community groups, as well as welcoming over 170 dogs for the ever-popular Fun Dog Show that raised over £86.50 for the Mayor of Gedling’s chosen charity, the Nottinghamshire Leukaemia appeal supporting Myeloma at the City Hospital. BMX displays at the 2009 Arnold CarnivalThe show offered activities for children of all ages, including rocket making and table top arts and crafts with the Gedling Play Forum, a fun fair provided by Proctor and Mellors and the Army Careers Office’s climbing wall and laser shoot.

There were also circus skills, jugglers, archery and BMX sessions provided by the Extreme Wheels team, as well as stilt walkers, magicians and the fish sellers from Fair Play Comedy.

Plans are already underway for next year with the Carnival scheduled for the weekend of 19 and 20 June 2010, with reviews of the 2008 Carnival also available on our past events page.

The Gedling Borough Show

Thousands attended the 2009 Gedling Borough Show to enjoy the borough’s largest Horticultural Show and Classic Car, Motorbike and Scooter Show with over 65 vehicles on display.

The Show also saw tabletop arts and crafts provided by the Gedling Play Forum, as well as visitors enjoying the Crazy Fox crazy golf challenge, JCRS Falconry’s stunning Bird of Prey display and the wild Bunch Western Show Team’s re-enactment of a Wild West shootout.

New for 2009, the Dance Marquee also featured performances by local dance groups of all ages and the chance for onlookers to get involved themselves.

We will soon begin planning for the 21st Gedling Show, which is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 4 and 5 September 2010. You can also check out a review of the 2008 Gedling Show on our past events page.

Bonfires

Annual bonfire evenings are held every November 5 at the King George V recreation ground, off Standhill Road, Carlton.

We organise play days for under 14’s to try new activities and express themselves through play, with more information available on our Play Days page.
