Gedling Borough Show 2008

Gedling Show

The weather did not deter thousands from attending the 19th Gedling Borough Show over the weekend of 30th & 31st August, which featured the Borough’s largest horticultural show with over 100 classes.

On Sunday the damp weather did not stop 82 classic cars, motorbikes and scooters attending, making it the best-attended car show ever.  Polly & Jolly’s exploding taxi delighted the younger visitors along with the Crazy Tramps trampolining antics, if deterred slightly by the occasional downpour.

There was a stunning Bird of Prey display, again, the birds were quite reluctant to fly in the heavy rain, but didn’t disappoint us.  A big thank you to all those entertainers who persisted with the weather.

We also had Sporting Champion and International Footballer, Andy Sinton provide individual and group coaching skills with the youngsters from Netherfield Boys & Girls FC.

The Army Careers unit attended with their Climbing Wall, British Cycling challenged cyclists on their cycling skills and the Tennis Federation hosted have a go sessions to test tennis abilities.  Burton Joyce Archers, Netherfield Boys & Girls Football Club, Gedling Southbank FC, The National Ice Centre and Arnold Town Girls all offered taster sessions.

There were table top activities provided by The Gedling Play Forum, including the very popular rocket making and decorating cotton bags donated by Gedling  Borough’s recycling department.

There were over 125 entrants in Sunday afternoon’s Fun Dog Show raising £62.50 for the Mayor’s Charity, Haywood House Hospice.

The awful weather did not prevent the Battle of Britain Memorial Dakota fly past thrilling as the magnificent plane appeared through the rain and drizzle.  It was unfortunate that the cloud base was so low and bad it prevented the Red Arrows from attending Sunday evening

Plans will shortly begin for the 20th Gedling Show.

Other events organised and hosted by Gedling Borough Council include, Gedling Proms, Gedling Play Day and Arnold Carnival
