Gedling Borough Council manages and maintains three cemeteries. The Cemetery Administrator is based at the Leisure Services Department in Arnot Hill Park.
The first recorded burial in one of the Council's cemeteries was July 3rd 1879 at Redhill. Since then the Council has provided first class cemetery services and endeavours to do so in the future.
The Cemetery Administrator maintains burial records for the following Cemeteries, which are currently managed and maintained by the Council. These records may be accessed by the general public through prior arrangment with the Cemetery Administrator, (see contact details).
For information on the following, please download our Bereavement Booklet.pdf(462.5K)( new window) which describes what to do when someone dies and the options available to you
Gedling Borough Council is now affiliated with BRAMM (British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons) making it easier for families to chose a mason to undertake new or repair work on a stone within our three cemeteries.
Providing the mason chosen is registered with BRAMM (please ask them for their certificate number) they can apply on your behalf for permission to work. Any mason not registered with BRAMM can still apply to work, but will have to go through an approval process, which could hold up any work you have ordered.
For your convenience we have listed below the names and contact numbers of some local masons who work regularly within our cemeteries. This list is not comprehensive and more companies will be listed in the telephone book, yellow pages or on the Internet.
Unfortunately Gedling Borough does not have a woodland burial site, but close to our boundary is The Green Burial Ground (Grange Farm, Oxton, Southwell. NG25 0RG. Tel/Fax 01623 882210)
The burial ground lies within the boundary of the historic Sherwood Forest, the grassland site adjacent to Darcliff Hill Wood is part of the Oxton estate.
