Every Child and Young Person in Gedling has the right to be able to play and be given every opportunity to do so in an inclusive way and in a safe and stimulating environment without compromising enjoyment and fun.
We believe this should happen through a range of quality opportunities which are age, and developmentally appropriate and sensitive to their needs. Through use of these opportunities to play children and young people should fulfill their physical and mental health development and be able to maximise their potential development.
In May 2006 a Play Visioning event was held in Gedling and was attended by some 20 representatives of various organisations involved in or responsible for play across the Borough. At that event it was agreed that the Gedling Play Partnership would be developed and the Partnership had it’s inaugural meeting in June 2006, since that time the Partnership has met on a regular basis to progress the Play Strategy entitled ‘Making Play Matter in Gedling'
The aim of the partnership is to bring together a cross section of partner agencies and organisations involved in the planning and or the delivery of children’s play services and activities to agree a collective way forward for developing play in Gedling. The main purpose of the Partnership is to shape the future of play across the Borough over the coming years.
Objective 1 - Understanding the needs and raising the profile of play.
Objective 2 - Improving the quality of play provision.
Objective 3 - Increasing the quantity and range of equipped play and recreational provision.
Objective 4 - Increasing the range of play and recreational activities to increase take-up by children and young people.
Objective 5 - Providing the necessary resources to improve and develop play and recreational opportunities.
The Gedling Play Partnership is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and review of Gedling's play strategy and action plan and includes the partners listed below. Following the development of the Gedling Play Partnership, and subsequent play strategy, Gedling was awarded a grant of £219,586 through The Big Lottery Fund’s Children’s Play Programme. The grant will stretch over three years and will be used to fund a portfolio of projects developed by the Gedling Play Partnership to increase opportunities for children to play.
The purpose of the projects are to raise the profile of play, increase freely accessible play opportunities and involve children and young people in the decision making process.
The grant will fund four projects which have been developed to address the needs of children and young people. Three of the projects involve the expansion and refurbishment of outdoor play spaces within the Borough, the fourth project will provide outreach play workers to deliver a range of quality, inclusive, supervised play opportunities in community settings.
