Gold Winners

On the Thursday 21 May the first local Building Excellence Awards were held at Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Kelham Hall.  Gedling Borough Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Building Control sections introduced awards for builders and architects who have used the councils’ building control services, to recognise the high quality design and building work within their areas.

Local Authority Building Control (East Midlands) have held a regional award scheme for a number of years and this was a natural extension to a local level. They recognise builders and designers who achieve high standards of construction on a project through a marking schedule developed to cover workmanship, site safety, compliance with legislation, supply of information and customer feedback.  Through the marking scheme projects can achieve bronze, silver and gold standard work and over 40 awards were given out at the event covering a range of work from domestic house conversions through to brand new schools and commercial projects.  Awards winners received a certificate, letter head logo that can be used on their headed business paper and a vehicle graphics sign to advertise their work when travelling.

Building Control Manager for Gedling Borough Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council, Dave Ewing, said: “The regional LABC Awards have been a tremendous success and quite rightly acknowledge prestigious developments across the region.  The extension of these awards gives us the opportunity to reward good practice and high quality work undertaken locally.  I hope that the owners, builders and architects involved will take pride in the recognition of their work and benefit from the award scheme.”

All Gold standard winners were nominated for the LABC regional awards evening on 12 June at the Village Hotel Chilwell, of those nominated three have been successful -  The Pebbles Southwell Rd Farnsfield, 150 – 156 High St Collingham and Arnold Mill Primary School, Arnold have been shortlisted for the evening and we wish them every success on the night.
