New food legislation commencing in January 2006 removed the previous statutory requirement for butchers shops to be relicensed.
From 1st January all food businesses will have to record their hygiene controls in the same way as butchers' shops have been doing since 2000. Butchers shops will however need to continue their MLC-based HACCP systems in order to meet the new Regulations and will continue to receive periodic inspections to ensure standards are maintined.
