All businesses importing food into the country need to know about the regulations that apply to certain products, as well as more general rules concerning food labelling and additives.
Failure to comply with UK and EU hygiene and safety rules could cause delay in shipments, increase costs and require action to be taken by enforcement authorities.

During the inspection of food businesses, our officers routinely check for consignments of illegally imported foods derived from both animals and plants.
We work with HM Customs and Revenue to help identify illegally imported foods, which we have the power to detain, seize and destroy where we see fit.
