Cinema Licensing

A licence was historically required under the Cinemas Act 1985 where premises were used for film exhibitions. A film exhibition was defined as an exhibition of moving pictures which is reproduced otherwise than by simultaneous reception and exhibition of programmes included within a programme service (within the meaning of the Broadcasting Act 1990). The term film exhibition therefore includes both moving picture and video exhibitions. Video jukeboxes in licensed premises therefore required a Cinema Licence.

The above cinema licensing provisions were however replaced by those contained in the Licensing Act 2003 on the 24th November 2005
