Gambling Act 2005

New legislation controlling future gambling

The Gambling Act 2005 received Royal Assent on the 7th April 2005 and intends to comprehensively modernise the law on gambling and introduces a powerful regulator for gambling, the Gambling Commission which will come out of the existing Gaming Board for Great Britain. The Act also gives responsibility for the licensing of gambling premises to Local Authorities.

The Act will be fully operational during the autumn of 2007. Key dates and milestones for implementation of the Act have been  published by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). Information relating to progress with the Gambling Act 2005 is available off their website at www.culture.gov.uk.
