Gedling Borough Council does not operate, licence or run any markets in this area but a private market is held at the Market Place, Arnold and prospective traders are advised to visit the Supervisors Office on the market on any day the market is trading to discuss pitches etc.
Persons considering seting up a temporary market in the area need to provide the Council with at least one month's notice (unless the event is soley or principally for charitable, social, sporting or political purposes) to meet the requirements of Section 37 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. They should also contact the Markets and Fairs Section at Nottingham City Council as specific historic charter arrangements are in place. Prospective markets and car boot sales beyond a single event should also contact the Development Control Service Planning & Environment Department at this Authority to discuss planning permission implications. The market will also require registering as a food business-if food vendors are to trade there-see our Food FAQ page for how to register as a food business.
Gedling Borough Council has adopted the provisions contained in Schedule 4 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 relating to Prohibited Streets. Certain streets in the centre of Arnold and by some local schools may not therefore be traded on by individuals or from vehicles. You can discuss and request a copy of the prohibited streets from the Food/Health & Safety Office telephone 0115 9013827 or by email at foodsafety@gedling.gov.uk
The council does not operate any-
"consent street” meaning a street in which street trading is prohibited without the consent of the district council; or
a “licence street” being a street in which street trading is prohibited without a licence granted by the district council.
Persons considering a street cafe should contact the Licensing Office at this Authority, telephone 901 3971 or email licensing@gedling.gov.uk to discuss the Licensing Act implications and the Food/Health & Safety Office, telephone 901 3974 or email foodsafety@gedling.gov.uk on food and health and safety implications.
