Scrap Metal Dealers

Persons dealing in scrap metal, with certain exceptions, are required to register their activities with the local authority in whose area the premises are run. A register of scrap metal dealers has to be kept by a local authority, and individual registered scrap metal dealers have to keep records of all metal transactions carried out. The local authority and the police have joint responsibilities for administration and enforcement of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964.
