Local Development Framework

We have a duty under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 to produce the Local Development Framework.

This Framework is used to determine the future development of the Borough, with more information available using the links below:

What is the Local Development Framework?

The Local Development Framework is a collection of Development Plan, Supplementary Planning Documents and other non-local development documents.

Together with the Regional Spatial Strategy for the East Midlands, the Framework offers guidance for the future development of the Borough.

How does the Local Development Framework differ from the previous system?

Under the previous system, a single Local Plan was developed over a number of years to deal with land use planning issues.

However, the new system takes the form of a documents folder, making the planning process quicker by allowing each document to be completed individually and on a rolling basis.

We hope the new focus on 'spatial planning' will also widen the scope of planning and encourage improvements in planning outcomes.

What does this mean to me?

The Act placed great emphasis on the importance of community involvement during the planning process.

This approach allows community organisations, businesses, local groups, representatives and residents to raise issues from the start and therefore directly influencing the documents that make up the Local Development Framework and how our work progresses.
