Medical Waste

We offer a free collection to householders who need to dispose of any medical waste which arises from treatments at home. Please contact us if you want us to collect or cancel a collection by calling 0115 901 3621 or emailing waste@gedling.gov.uk. All records of collections will remain confidential.

Once you have contacted us and agreed a collection point, we will contact you within five working days. We will send you a letter which will tell you when your first collection date will be and we will provide you with three yellow bags to put your medical waste in. Bags must be put out at the agreed collection point by 7:00am on the date of collection and must be tied. After each collection, new medical bags will be left for you to use.

An additional green bin is available for you if you have excess cardboard packaging e.g. dialysis cardboard waste. This is also free of charge.

Any sharp instruments such as scalpels or needles must be put into special yellow plastic containers (sharp boxes) and returned to the clinic/chemist where you receive your needles from or to your district health visitor.
