Web Team Pages

Introduction

The main aim of these pages is to explain how and why Gedling Borough Council's website looks and behaves the way it does.

Design and Accessibility

Unlike many private organizations a Government website has to conform to many rules and guidelines in order to make its site as accessible as possible. These rules and guidelines ensure that the content of the website is available in a format that can be read by as many people as possible and as a result they have a major impact on the design (the look and feel) of the website.

Content Management

Many websites traditionally have a Webmaster who is responsible for creating their web pages. The Webmaster can only work on one article at once and therefore can become a problem when many people want their articles publishing at the same time. To get around this problem Gedling BC decided to use Content Management Software. This software allows any person with basic word processing skills to create their own web pages without the need for any technical web know-how. This software has also allowed the design of the website to remain consistent despite more than 50 members of staff working on separate pages.

Good Value

The Content Management Software has allowed the staff at Gedling BC to create the website without the need for expensive training or the need to employ a full time Webmaster.
