There are a number of different ways to navigate the website. We suggest that the best place to start looking for information is under the Living, Working, Leisure headings on the home page of the website. Links to most of the Council’s services are listed under these three headings. However, there are several other ways of searching for information and these are listed below. The A to Z Index and Contents pages are also efficient ways of finding information.
The site has been organised so that any piece of information can be reached from the home page within 3 clicks. We have used text to display the navigation links rather than graphical buttons. This gives you, the reader, maximum control of text size by adjusting your browser settings or by using your own style sheet.
We have categorised most of the Council’s services into three general topics, according to which area of life we feel the service or information fits into.
The following navigation aids appear at the top of every page:
The A to Z is an index page just like the index you might find at the back of a book. This is probably the best place to start looking for a particular piece of information.
The Contents page is just like the contents page that you might find at the front of a book. Topics are listed alphabetically.
The sitemap allows you to view the whole structure of the website at a glance. It contains every single page of the website.
Clicking the Home Page button will take you straight to the Gedling Borough Council Home Page.
This link takes you to this page that you are currently reading. If you look at the menu on the left hand side of the page you can see that it is one of a number of pages belonging to the web team that explain all about the design and accessibility of this site.
The following frequently visited pages also appear at the top of every page:
This page contains the contact details of our main locations together with the directions to get to us.
This page uses Google Safe Search to search our web site.
This allows you to carry out online services and transactions. Click on the text in the menu to go to the appropriate page.
This menu contains links to the pages providing information about the Council itself.
The Popular Pages menu takes you directly to some of the website’s most frequently visited pages.
Contains links to current Gedling Borough Council news stories and events.
Contains links to related websites.
On the left hand side of most web pages there is a menu. Rather than containing a very long list of every page in our website this menu will usually contain just a small set of related pages. These pages may be related by a specific topic of general interest, for example Community Affairs or they may by related by a Council service area, for example Leisure.
Clicking on the text in the menu will result in the page being displayed. You may see some coloured arrows at the side of the menu text. These are visual aids to help you find your way around the menu.
When the text in the menu is highlighted, you are viewing that page.
At the bottom of every page you will see a footer containing the following links:
This link will take you to a page explaining how you can complain to the Council.
This page sets out copyright information and disclaimers.
