Young Person's Positive Moves is an Exercise Referral scheme for 8 to 15 year olds who have difficulty with participating in mainstream activity sessions. This could be due to conditions such as being overweight, autism and behavioural or learning difficulties.
Young people with these conditions can benefit greatly by participating in regular, structured physical activity.
A referral from a Paediatrician or another healthcare professional is needed before joining the scheme. Once your child has been referred, our team will arrange to meet you to discuss how to get started.
Young people on the scheme can complete up to two 10-week blocks of activities. They have the chance to participate in various activities including Swim-fit, Gymnastics, Football, Basketball, Dance and Get Growing in Gedling (community allotment activity).
After completing the programme, some young people may move on to mainstream types of activity (e.g. sports clubs, swimming lessons). For those that are still not ready, they have the option of graduating onto the Young Person’s Positive Moves Extras programme to keep active, which will be discussed with you throughout the programme.
Each young person must pay £1 every time they attend a session. We will provide a Gedling Leisure Card for each participant, which they will need to use when attending any Leisure Centre based activities. With the Leisure Card, participants will also be able to access public swimming and youth gym sessions (only available at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre) for £1.
If there are available spaces in the sessions, these may become available to siblings or friends of the participants. The same costs apply as above and there is a limit of one friend per participant.
