Making Play Matter in Gedling”
Wednesday 11th August FREE EVENT
Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, Nottingham 1.00pm – 4.00pm
Gedling Play Day is organised and part-funded by Notts CC, Gedling Play Forum and Gedling Borough Council and is chance for the under 14s to express themselves through play, in a safe and secure environment.
Gedling Play Forum will be providing various table top arts and crafts for all ages and abilities, including the ever popular rocket making. This year’s theme is Robin Hood and children can make their own swords, hats and tabards then join in helping to build Nottingham castle, encouraging imagination in play.
Nottingham Voicebox will provide the musical entertainment, along with cheerleaders and dance displays/have a go sessions. Watch the junior street theatre performances.
Extreme Wheels will be providing free taster BMX & skateboarding sessions in the ball court car park and a football coach will be offering advice to all the budding Beckham’s.
Test your skills on the Crazy Golf course and visit Notts County Council’s Road Safety Team who will be on hand to offer road safety advice and various games.
Take part in the Youth Gym’s Rowing Challenge with prizes of free gym passes, water bottles and other goodies.
Lots of things to see and do in the environmental and adventure play areas along with the giant junk section and painting area.
Come and see around a real fire engine and Police car.
Something for all ages and abilities, so wear your play clothes and be prepared to get very messy!
Make Time for Play
The 2010 play day took place on the 2nd June.
Gedling Play Forum and Gedling Borough Council hosted this year’s Carlton Play Day at the Richard Herrod Playing Fields Foxhill Road, Carlton, Nottingham.
Over 700 under 14s had a fun packed afternoon of free play activities.
The Gedling Play Forum provided 11 different table-top activities, including shield making, Robin Hood callers, Princess Tabards and Tiaras and Play Day favourite, Rocket Making.
Extreme Wheels provided BMX taster sessions with a variety of ramps from the very simple up to complex high rise twisters as well as grass carts.
There was also a short demonstration from Carlton Forum’s very own dance troupe Fusion and over 100 children took part in the rowing, skipping and hula hoop challenge organised by Gedling’s Fitness Promotions Officer.
NCC Play Development Team provided space hoppers and NCC Road Safety Team had games and advice on offer. The Ice Arena provided an electronic Ice Hockey Goal Challenge and Surestart provided activities for the younger child.
Papplewick Play Day – 28th July 2010
The Papplewick Play Day takes place annually at the Village Hall Playing Field, Linby Lane, Papplewick, Nottingham and runs from 1.00pm – 4.00pm
This joint event is organised and funded by Papplewick Parish Council and Gedling Borough Council and offers a chance for the under 14s to express themselves through play in a safe and secure environment.
Many activities are on offer including BMX Bikes and grass karts, lots of arts and craft activities and rocket making provided by the Gedling Play Forum.
You can also test your skills on the Crazy Golf course, have a go on the road safety activity stall, try your hand at the space hoppers and find out all there is to know about den building.
Lots of different games and activities for all ages and abilities to try. So, children, wear your play clothes for lots of fun and laughter…..
Light refreshments will be available.

Made up of representatives from the private, public and voluntary sectors, the Gedling Play Partnership was formed in 2007 to look at local play provision and drive forward the new Play strategy for the borough.
